Skincare Basics. Lets Start at the Very Beginning!

Skincare can be an absolute minefield. Fact!

So I'm going to break it down and tell you what is going to be best for all the different worries and concerns you may have. And I'll also recommend some products along the way.

If your concern is acne prone skin then you're going to want products with salicylic acid in. What the will do is reduce redness in the skin, unclog pores, reduce swelling and it will help to dry out and clear those breakouts.

Retinol is really good for cell production, it also helps to unclog pores and gently exfoliates the skin. So it's really good for anti-ageing and for helping with those fine lines and wrinkles. You will find that because it's an exfoliant, most products will be for overnight use as your skin will be more sensitive to the sun.

Superdrug Optimum Retinol range is one I've tried and really liked. Especially the Extra Strength Eye Cream £14.99 superdrug.com

If you want to reduce pigmentation then, obviously, you want a sun cream. You'll also want something with Hyaluronic acid, because that not only helps to reduce lines and wrinkles, but also helps to reduce pigmentation.

If your skin is dry and you just want to brighten it up, vitamin C is really good for re-energising, re-hydrating and brightening.

You've also probably heard of anti-oxidants, but what are these? These help protect our skin from external pollution. They also help to repair UV damage, and help to increase the production of collagen and elastin in our skin. So are really good for anti-ageing too.

Collagen is bounced around here there and everywhere. It is a protein that we naturally produce in our body. Products with it it claim to reduce visible lines and wrinkles, and improve skins elasticity.
